Whit Friday Marches

What a day!

Members of CBBB joined forces with members from University bands, Staffordshire Band and others to form a scratch band for this year’s Whit Friday contest.

With some singing rehearsals and marching instructions on the coach we were ready to start the day.

Registering at Staleybridge we performed our first rendition of Sweet Caroline and Punchinello to a small crowd. The scratch band then moved on to Heyrod, Mossley, Friezland, Uppermill and Delph to finish. As the evening went on the crowds got bigger and the streets were lined with people singing along!

It was fantastic to be part of this event after Covid halted proceedings over the last couple of years and to see so many bands coming together for such a fun occasion.

Thanks to everyone who joined the scratch band and for making it a day to remember.

Birmingham celebrates the Platinum Jubilee

To mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne, the city of Birmingham provided 4 days of entertainment.

On Saturday, CBBB took to the stage for two sets of popular music including film music, songs and a rousing performance of Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance which had the audience singing along. Despite the drizzle a large audience were ready to be entertained in Victoria Square.

The performance was part of a huge programme of artists and bands across the weekend. We’re delighted to have been part of this national celebration in the city.

All the Fun at the Festival

There was plenty of sunshine and good vibes at the European Brass Band Festival today in our home city of Birmingham.

CBBB did the city proud alongside the brilliant Langley Band who also performed. We’re delighted to have been given the chance to play as part of the festival’s free outdoor programme celebrating brass bands and showcasing a variety of styles of music from different community and youth bands.

Thanks to Brass Bands England for hosting and for inviting us to perform for this musical festival.

Preparations well underway for contest day

We’re counting down the days to the Midlands Area contest!

Final preparations are well underway and we’ve been getting stuck into the contest piece “Facets of Glass”. In these last rehearsals we’ve been working on the finer details ready to put in a good performance on the 27th.

It’s been fantastic to see the band working hard as a team and hearing all the parts coming together ahead of the big day. Hopefully all the hard work will pay off .
