BBC Sports Personality of the Year

Tonight the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards will be broadcast on national television. It’s amazing to look back 12 months and remember that this time last year we were preparing to take to the stage at Resorts World Arena, Birmingham for the 2018 BBC SPOTY.

We’ve got some fantastic memories from being part of this huge event in our home city. Take a look at our post from the day!

You can still watch our performance here (BBC website).

The Christmas Spirit

Yesterday there was a real Christmas spirit in the air as we performed at two events and were joined by old and new friends.

At the Bournville Gardens Christmas Fayre we had a great time entertaining the resident’s, friends and family.

This was followed by our evening concert with Bournville-Vocal-Ease Ladies Choir, St Francis Children’s Choir and Bournville Bell Choir. The event was a great success and everyone put on a fantastic performance to a packed St Francis Church.

A huge thank you to all of our friends from bands around the Midlands who helped us out at Bournville Church concert. Unfortunately some of our band member were unwell and we were grateful for the last minute support from other players (both old and new faces). That’s the spirit of Christmas and brass banding!

Our thanks go out to Cubbington Silver Band, Royal Spa Brass, and Birmingham Schools Symphony Orchestra, as well previous members of CBBB and old friends for supporting us.

We’ve still got some gigs this festive season, see our events calendar for more dates!

The stage is almost set…

There are just two days until our Christmas Concert with Bournville Choirs.

On Saturday night, a concert is being held at St Francis Church, Bournville and will feature the City of Birmingham Brass Band, Bournville-Vocal-Ease Ladies Choir, St Francis Children’s Choir, and Bournville Bell Choir.

With a mixed programme of traditional Christmas carols, and lively festive pieces, this promises to be an entertaining evening for all.

In addition to the music, there will also be a raffle, mulled wine and a cake sale.

Tickets are available from the St Francis Church Parish office or on the door. For more information, see the poster below. See you there!

Festive fun at Frankfurt Christmas Market

With the Christmas season in full swing the Band is busy carolling in and around Birmingham.

After our fanfare to open the Frankfurt Christmas Market, we returned on Saturday with more carols.

The market was filled with food and drink (which the band made the most of) and plenty of visitors, so it was great to be once again part of this annual spectacle.

That evening it was time for our Christmas social (involving more food and drinks…).

Don’t forget that we’re back at the Christmas Market on the 14th December from 2pm-4pm if you’d like to hear us.

If you’re looking for something more formal, our Christmas concert with Bournville Choirs is this Saturday. Tickets are available now from the St Francis Church parish office (0121 472 7215) and on the door on the day.

CBBB return to the German Market

You’ll be pleased to hear that we’re back at the German Market this weekend to entertain!

Earlier this month we performed at the official opening ceremony of the Frankfurt Christmas Market in Victoria Square, Birmingham.

Now we’re back on the 30th November as part of the entertainment for the festival. Find out more here. We’ll be in Victoria Square from 2pm-4pm so do drop by.

If you’re unable to join us this time, this is one of a number of carolling events and concerts we’re hosting over the festive period. You can find out where we’re performing on our events calendar.

Seasons Greetings in Stratford

Stratford-upon-Avon were treated to our carols on Saturday, but if you missed us, don’t worry, we’re back on Thursday 21st November!

From 6:15pm we’ll be at Bell Court, Stratford-upon-Avon with carols and more seasons greetings. Come along and join us (head gear is optional).

We’ve also got our Christmas concert at Bournville, Birmingham on Saturday 7th December when we’ll be playing a wider repertoire (Christmas themed of course…). See our poster below for more info.

See you there!

Kicking off the Christmas season

The Christmas season is here and the band kicked off the season in style.

On Thursday, our band announced the opening of the famous Birmingham Frankfurt Christmas Market and the switching on of the city centre Christmas lights with a grand fanfare.

We joined the Lord Mayor of Birmingham Cllr Mohammed Azim who pressed the button to light up the Christmas tree.

The crowd attending the event were then treated to a selection of carols which floated down into Victoria Square from our position on the balcony of the Council House.

This year marks the Frankfurt Christmas Market’s 20th visit to Birmingham so it was great to be part of the celebration.

There are many more festive outings for the band this season. We’ll be playing again at the German Market so make sure you visit when we’re there! Find out more about our upcoming gigs (including our Christmas Concert on the 7th December) here.

A fond farewell

We’re sorry to have said goodbye to our soprano player Oli who rehearsed with us for the last time this week.

Oli has been a dedicated member of the City of Birmingham Brass Band since 2104 and he will be sorely missed as he makes the exciting move to Norway for a new job.

We wish him all the best in his next adventure!
